The Voice Academy Malta Master Class and Workshop at BIMM Institute London
On the 1st November 2014, The Voice Academy Malta attended a Master Class at their international partner school BIMM Institute in London. The 15 students and their vocal coach Mr Ivan De Gabriele had the privilege of taking part in an extremely well prepared Master class / workshop delivered by a professional and very experienced vocal coach Mr David Laudat. David has worked with artists such as The Spice Girls, East 17, Westlife, All Saints, Liberty X, Ash, Rick Astley, Heather Small, Blazing Squad, Lisa Maffia and 100 Reasons, to name but a few. He has also appeared as the judges’ expert on the first two seasons of The X Factor, and as a judge or coach on a number of other TV shows.
During the Master class session that lasted approximately 2 hours, the students present started off with two simple warm ups, then worked extensively on the chosen song ‘Forever’ by the group Haim. Mr Laudat listened to the song a couple of times and started working on style and vocal warmth and colour. Then the group was divided into three sections where they worked on various harmonies. This section ended up with the main melody being sung by 5 students and the rest vocalised the song in the different harmonies.
The Workshop session also lasted approximately 2 hours and this consisted of a three piece live band. Each of the students were given the opportunity of singing this song live individually as lead singers. Three other students were singing in harmony the backing vocals. These interchanged every two songs. By the end of the workshop all the students were given the opportunity to sing as lead singers and backing vocals. Mr David Laudat was continuously tutoring them. During and after the session Mr Laudat was all praise about the high standard of our Maltese students. The Voice Academy Malta is very proud of all the students who were very well prepared and professional. They were also very eager and dynamic to learn new approaches in a very short time.
